A history book about Killiney and the surrounding areas of Dalkey, Shankill and Ballybrack recently launched at the Dalkey Book Festival, in June 2024. The book is called Abbey Lea, A Killiney History
On Saturday 27th April 2024 An Cathaoirleach Denis O’Callaghan unveiled a memorial bench at Killiney Beach in honour of Killiney resident Louie Bennett (1870-1956). Labour Councillor, campaigner for equality, workers rights and peace and co-founder of the Irish Women’s Suffrage Federation.

Killiney Historical Society is delighted to present this video recording of the first lecture of 2024 which was delivered by local historian John Martin on 6th February in Killiney. John’s talk concentrates on the highly ambitious plans to develop a ‘new town’ of over 180 dwellings on Killiney Hill in 1840. John has unearthed new insights into this fascinating topic and this is a very interesting and informative talk.
For those of you who may have missed the recent talk by Pól Ó Duibhir you can watch it here. His informative and highly entertaining history on the background and implementation of the maritime defences along Killiney Bay in the early 19th century is a must see.
