Edmund Dwyer Gray and the Blue Vein rescue in Killiney Bay, 1868.

There were many individual acts of heroism that went away beyond the call of duty owed to others and one such deed was carried out on September 25th 1868 on Killiney Strand near Dublin by a man who would eventually become the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Edmund Dwyer Gray, 1845-1888.

Louie Bennett memorial unveiling at Killiney Beach

On Saturday 27th April 2024 An Cathaoirleach Denis O’Callaghan unveiled a memorial bench at Killiney Beach in honour of Killiney resident Louie Bennett (1870-1956). Labour Councillor, campaigner for equality, workers rights and peace and co-founder of the Irish Women’s Suffrage Federation.

Tragic plane crash in Killiney Bay on 15th July 1955

While hundreds of people on the beach at Killiney, Co. Dublin, watched a low-flying plane, it crashed into the sea 200 yards from the shore, killing one man and injuring another.
