Killiney Historical Society Newsletter November 2024
Killiney Historical Society
It is just over a year since the idea for the formation of the Killiney Historical Society (KHS) came about. This was an initiative of Killiney Village Residents Association as part of the Village Design Statement strategy which is currently being undertaken. We would like to take this opportunity to thank in particular Simone Walsh and Mary Holohan of KVRA for all their help and support up to now and affirm our continued cooperation into the future.
The time has come to formalise the structure of KHS as an independent entity as we need to adhere to the requirements of the Federation of Local History Societies which we plan to join in the near future. We also intend to apply for membership of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Public Participation Network which, amongst other things, will allow us to seek grants for projects similar to our ‘Killiney on the Move’ event which took place earlier this year.
The intention is to officially appoint three individuals to key roles in the Society ie. Chairperson, Hon. Secretary and Hon. Treasurer. We have nominations for these positions and a formal vote to ratify these positions will take place at our meeting next Tuesday 5th November at 8pm in the Druid’s Chair. Please join us as we set out our vision for the future of the Society and our immediate plans for the coming year.
From 1st January 2025 the Society will be open to membership for a suggested annual subscription of €15. (€20 for a family membership). Certain events will be membership only and we would encourage as many as possible to join up in the new year. We are currently preparing a draft set of rules for the administration of KHS and input on this can be put forward at our upcoming meeting. Our mission statement remains as it was when we first came together, see below
We plan to launch our first annual journal at our meeting to be held on 3rd December. The theme of this journal will be transport and contributors include the speakers who gave presentations at our summer event. The journal launch will take place prior to a talk to be presented by Peter Pearson on the Architectural Treasures of old Killiney.
