KHS visit to Dalkey Island on Wed 2nd July
Members only Dalkey Island tour on Wednesday 2nd July

Many of our members will have attended the fascinating talk by Peadar Curran in the Druid’s Chair in February, when there was great enthusiasm for Peadar to give a guided tour on the island itself. Peadar grew up in Dalkey and spent time at Coliemore Harbour which included observing the archaeological excavations on the Island during the 1950s. Peadar will show us the historical aspects of the Island from the first settlers in the Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age periods through to the early Christian and Viking eras and the later fortifications of the Napoleonic times.
The eagerly anticipated excursion has now been scheduled for Wednesday 2nd July, weather permitting. The planned schedule is:
12:00 Meet at Coliemore Harbour, Dalkey
12:30 Guided tour of the island with Peadar
13:30 Picnic on the island (bring your own food)
15:00 Return to Coliemore Harbour (suggested)
Cost is €10 for the return trip, payable to the boatman, Neil Cunningham (son of “Ken the Ferryman”).
Neil’s boat accommodates 12 passengers and the trip takes less than 5 minutes, so we expect to have 2-3 trips to get everyone across. You are welcome to return earlier or later than the 3pm suggested time. Neil will be available until 5pm to take people home. There will be limited capacity for this trip so please contact us as soon as possible to book your place.
IMPORTANT
If you plan to attend this event please let us know the number of people in your party. Members will have received an email providing contact details to book your place.
These plans are weather-dependent and therefore subject to change.
